Description
Pen-y-Lan Farmhouse and the attached barn to the north form a long house derivative. The barn and farmhouse are connected along the west side of the farmyard, with part of the farmhouse, which includes a lean-to, positioned against the long rear elevation of the barn. The barn is located at the northern end of the range, while the farmhouse is at the southern end. The barn features four bays, a slate roof, and stone walls, with a loft entry in the northern gable end. It has tall double doors with slate canopies on both sides in the second bay from the north end, and there is a stone threshing floor inside.
The lean-to part of the farmhouse is built against the southern bay of the barn's western elevation, sharing a continuous slate roof with the barn and featuring a chimney stack. The walls are made of colour-washed stone rubble. The remaining part of the farmhouse to the south has a separate slate roof that has a higher ridge than the barn. The eastern elevation of the farmhouse is two storeys high, with two bays and a central doorway. The ground floor is made of painted stone rubble with stonework similar to that of the barn, although the courses appear to be discontinuous. The upper floor is constructed of painted brick and features small-pane Brecon hopper windows, along with a modern painted brick porch.
