Description
The George Hotel is a two-storey hotel with a rendered exterior and a six-window front, dating from the 18th century. It features a slate roof and stone end chimney stacks. The window openings have moulded architraves, with hornless sash windows that have 12 panes on the first floor and no glazing bars on the ground floor. There is a band between the floors. On the ground floor, there are five windows, and near the center, there is a bay with a moulded wooden doorcase that includes a fanlight and a flat hood supported by consoles.
At the rear, there is a large parallel block with a lean-to on the right, which connects to the main part of the hotel. Originally, the ground floor had two front rooms of unequal size, but the right front and rear rooms have now been combined into one. The right room features an 18th-century modillion cornice at the front, a moulded cornice at the rear, and a beam with a panelled soffit. The left front room has exposed beams and stone fireplaces. Behind this room, there is a notable early 18th-century wooden staircase that leads to the top of the building, complete with turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
