Description

Morgannwg House is a tall house dating from the 19th century, featuring a stucco exterior, a hipped slate roof with overhanging eaves, and a rectangular brick chimney. The front faces Glamorgan Street and consists of three storeys and a basement, arranged in five bays. The façade includes bands and pilasters with incised decoration, with a slightly advanced central bay that has a gable adorned with decorative bargeboards and an inset semi-circular window. The top floor has four-pane sash windows, while the other floors feature 12-pane sashes set in moulded architraves, with those on the ground floor having bracketed cornices. There are steps leading up to a central porch that has open arches on the front and sides. The round-headed doorway contains a six-panelled door with panelled reveals. The rear elevation has five windows and includes a modern extension at right angles.

The forecourt is enclosed by a low stone wall with ashlar coping and railings that feature uprights with spiked finials and panelled standards. Inside, the house has a symmetrical ground floor plan, a good contemporary staircase with slender turned balusters, ground floor ceilings adorned with plaster roses and cornices, and period fireplaces.
