Description
Ty Canol is a two-storey building with an attic, featuring a main range and a later, lower wing to the left. It has battered walls made of random rubble sandstone, showing traces of limewash, and a slate roof that includes two inserted skylights at the front. The stone stacks have been recently rebuilt, one on the left side of the main range and another at the rear of the wing.
The front of the building, which faces the former barn, has a two-window arrangement with modern casements set in 19th-century openings. There is a notable four-light window on the lower right with diamond mullions that illuminates the former parlour. The doorway is located on the left and is narrowed in stone beneath a 19th-century stone lintel. The right gable end features an attic window with diamond mullions, while the left gable end has a renewed stair light with diamond mullions on the left and a small stair light leading to the attic.
The rear wing has a two-window side wall with casements under stone lintels in 19th-century openings, and a taller window on the lower left. Windows added to the rear of the main range were replaced in the late 20th century.
Although not inspected during the survey in December 1997, it was recorded by Jones and Smith as having a fireplace stair and a post-and-panel partition with a shaped door head. The door jamb was widened to allow the passage of cider barrels when the original pantry was converted into a cider cellar.
