Description
This is a group of model farm buildings, likely dating to the 18th century. The complex consists of several ranges arranged around a central point. A long, high building runs back from the road, with the tallest section at the rear. A lower barn range extends southeast at a right angle to the back of the main range. A smaller, short mill building runs southeast at a right angle further forward. An L-shaped single-storey range projects from the front end of the main range, turning northwest.
The buildings are constructed of rubble stone with slate roofs. The front building of the spine range has a hipped roof to the northeast end. The left side wall features five square loft openings, three with brick heads, one blocked, above a mostly blank wall. A large doorway sits to the left, now fitted with a later sliding door. The northeast end facing the road is windowless, with a short, single-storey range running northwest, featuring a broad opening in the left side wall and a hipped southeast angle. This range then returns northwest, with a centre blocked door with stone voussoirs directly beneath a square loft opening, and a window with stone voussoirs to the right. The rear wall and right gable end have been largely rebuilt. The rear of the main range has eight pairs of vent loops set high under the eaves, a central broad doorway with a cambered brick head, two loops to the left, and windows at mid height to the right, with the ground floor obscured.
The mill range projects at a right angle from the left side of the main range, with its ridge just below the eaves of the main range. It features three square loft windows and two outer doors, all with stone voussoirs, and a roundel in the southeast gable end above a door.
Beyond the mill, the main range is the tallest portion, with a gable over the roof of the first range and a gable to the left end, over the roof of the barn range. One side has a doorway in the angle to the barn, with two sets of three vent loops stacked above one another to the centre. A square loft opening is positioned over the doorway, under the eaves, with a smaller loft opening above the loops, both with stone voussoirs. A broad doorway is topped with a hoodmould, dished to the centre, over a lean-to porch with stone sides and a slate roof. To the right are stone steps leading to a doorway with a brick head and two loft windows above.
The barn range is long and features two large doorways with cambered heads, each under a hoodmould, alternated with three loft windows set between and slightly above pairs of vent loops. The windows have cambered heads and stone voussoirs. The hoodmoulds of the barn doors are sunk or dished towards the centre. The left end wall has been rebuilt, now containing brick-framed windows.
The buildings are not accessible for internal inspection.
