Description

The barns at Ty Mawr are a complex of buildings, likely dating to the 18th century. They are constructed of rubble stone with slate roofs. The main barn features two tall entrances with pentice roofs supported by renewed oak brackets. An eroded date plaque suggests an 18th-century origin. Square vent openings are positioned at two levels between the doors, with additional openings at each level on the outer sides of the doorways. A straight joint indicates an addition to the right, which incorporates a cambered-headed entry with stone voussoirs and a loft window set beneath the eaves. An attached range, set at a right angle, has a brick-headed door on its side wall and openings on both floors of its end wall. A rear elevation of the barn contains two opposing doors, while the north gable has a large loft opening with an oak lintel and a lean-to addition.

Inside the barn, the structure is characterised by large tie-beam and collar trusses incorporating angled struts. The door lintels and rafters have been renewed.
