Description

The building is a garage that was originally part of Island House. It features a high wall that runs southwest towards the grist, with a front gable-ended cross range extending towards the street. The top courses of the wall are bonded, and it has a slate coping and a brick chimney stack. The wall then turns southeast and runs along the northeast side of the grist, where there is a modern opening leading to a modern house that is not of special interest. The wall curves back towards the castle, stepping down in front of the modern house and rising again at the end of the garden of Island House. This section of the wall has a plaque that reads, "This wall was rebuilt by Maryabra Hughes Skyrme AD 1837."

At the northeast corner, the base of a cylindrical tower was converted in the early 19th century into a gazebo, which is now in poor condition. The wall then turns northwest along the River Coran to a two-storey rubble structure with a corrugated roof that adjoins the ornamental gothic gate tower of Island House. This structure is now a garage but is said to have formerly contained living accommodation. It retains a pendant at the gable end, with freestone quoins and brick surrounds to the windows on the northeast side.
