Description
34 King Street is a house and shop dating from the 18th century. The building features painted roughcast walls and an imitation slate close-eaved roof without a chimney. It has two storeys and consists of two bays. The structure includes a plinth, two 2-pane horned sash windows on the first floor, and a large 20th-century single-pane fixed shop window with a 20th-century casing. To the right, there is a recessed doorway with two doors: one leading into an optician's shop and the other straight ahead into No 34a, which serves as upper storey offices. The doorway is aligned to the right of the window above.
Inside, there is a staircase with turned balusters and a thick rail in the early to mid-18th century style. The bottom flight was replaced in the 20th century, while the next flight features a square newel and a closed pulvinated string. The following flight is enclosed.
In the cellar, accessed by six steps, there is a wall of stone rubble on the right side of the building, which forms the party wall with No 33 and is approximately 2.80 metres thick. This wall likely belongs to the medieval town wall. The two cellars are connected and can only be accessed from No 34. Additionally, there is a fireplace on the back wall of the cellar in No 34 and one heavy beam.
