Description
Garlands is a two-storey house of probable 18th century origin. It is built on a square plan with a three-window front. The exterior is roughcast and whitewashed, featuring a hipped pyramid roof with deep eaves, paired brackets, and roughcast end wall stacks. The front elevation (east) has an unusual arrangement of five windows: three nine-pane sashes above, and two twelve-pane sashes on either side below. The north end wall lacks windows, but has a Roman Doric timber porch with two columns and pilaster responds, a six-panel door, and a fanlight. The window reveals are panelled. The rear (west) side of the house features a twelve-pane sash on each side of a first-floor window, and a twelve-pane sash on each side of a former ground-floor door, above which is a blank arch. All windows have fixed twelve-pane glazing. Internally, the house contains a stick baluster staircase with a ramped rail and moulded tread ends. It holds group value reflecting its architectural character and contribution to the street scene.
