Description
Fron is a double pile house featuring a cellar, two storeys, and an attic, with a three-window front elevation facing east. The building is constructed from local hammer-dressed limestone masonry, which is regularly coursed at the front and brought to courses elsewhere. It has slate roofs pitched at 45 degrees, with stone end chimneys on both piles that have been rebuilt or repointed, complete with capping and dripstones. The central doorway is flanked by renewed 12-pane sash windows in exposed frames on the ground and first floors, with slate sills. A small gablet rises as a pediment from the eaves line at the front, incorporating a large semicircular window that lights the attic. Attic windows are also located in the end elevations beside the chimneys.
The house has a symmetrical plan with a central hallway and a passage leading to the stairs at the rear. Inside, there is a fine dogleg staircase with a simple handrail and a giant sash window on the landing. The main reception rooms on the ground floor feature doors with two panels.
The trusses in both the front and rear piles have curved collar beams and display carpenter's marks, with the two sets of marks being in different styles.
