Description
The York Tavern is a former inn dating from the 18th century. It features painted roughcast walls with stuccoed quoins and door and window surrounds, topped by an imitation slate roof with a low rendered chimney stack. The building has two storeys and a cellar, with a two-bay facade that includes two doorways.
On the ground floor, from the left, there is a bowed small 20th-century replica window with 20 panes and a dentil cornice, a blocked central doorway, a 4-pane sash window, and a 20th-century door leading to a former through passage. The first floor has two 4-pane sash windows.
At the rear, there is a rendered wing that displays the name 'The York' in raised capitals, with a chimney at the southern end and 20th-century windows. Inside, the front ground floor room has two rough beams, indicating it was formerly two rooms with a central passage. The left beam features a stepped scroll stop at one end, which may date back to the late 17th century. The cellar is not available for inspection.
