Description

The Preaching Cross in Jeffreyston Churchyard is a stone cross that stands 2.1 meters tall, although it was originally much taller. The shaft has an oblong shape with deep chamfers that stop near the base. The arms and head of the cross end in a slight hollow, which, along with the rib formed by the chamfering, gives it a bifurcated appearance. On the west face, just below the arms, there are two bronze bolt heads, suggesting a skilled repair if this is where the cross broke. The structure includes a socket-stone and two large steps.
