Description
The Old Coach House is an early to mid 19th-century coach-house and stables located to the south. In 1834, it was part of North Down, a 'genteel residence' owned by Colonel Kemm and occupied by Reverend J B Byers, the Vicar of Lamphey from 1824 to 1867, suggesting the building may date from around this time.
This structure is designed in a late Georgian style, featuring a slightly advanced central bay with a pediment. It is constructed of rendered rubble limestone, with ashlar quoins and other decorative elements. The central coach entrance has an elliptical arch with a keystone above it. Originally, there was a stable on the left and a stable with a loose-box on the right. The doors have flat arches with keystones, and the outer doors are notably high. Square openings for the loft are positioned above the doors, and there is a roundel in the pediment. The building has a low-pitched roof that is hipped at each end and is sheeted. There are outside stairs at the eastern end.
The Old Coach House has been converted into a milking parlour, resulting in the loss of internal walls and stalls. It is noted for being a well-designed late Georgian estate building, which is rare in South Pembrokeshire.
