Description
The Limekiln is a large square single limekiln, featuring a brick-lined bowl that widens to a diameter of 3 meters at the top platform level. It is built against high ground on its west side, with a path leading up to the platform from the quarry to the west. The working openings are positioned at road level on the east side.
The kiln is supported by buttresses on the north, south, and east sides. It has draw-arches made of corbelled construction on the north and south, with top slabs spanning up to 1 meter. Each arch contains an upper inspection hole approximately 20 centimeters square and a lower draw hole about 80 centimeters wide.
The bowl is lined with modern firebricks arranged in header bond, and this lining extends to the full height of the kiln, with indications that it once rose above the current kiln platform level. The kiln and its buttresses are made of limestone, showing traces of render. The top of the kiln has been made safe for public access, featuring a small parapet wall.
