Description

The former Sion Gates, dating from the 19th century, consist of a pair of cast-iron gates mounted on stone piers that are approximately 2.7 meters apart. The gates feature a stylised floral design, with each gate comprising a top and bottom rail, along with a double rail at lock level that mimics the appearance of wrought iron through the way the bars penetrate. There are nine upright bars topped with stylised fircone knobs. Below the lock rail, four cross-braces are adorned with large paired fern leaves that fill the lozenges. The bar at the hinge end pivots in a ground socket.
