Description
The former Sion House Gates, specifically the lower pair, are a notable example of cast-iron gates mounted on stone piers, which are approximately 2.7 meters apart. The gates feature a stylised floral design and consist of a top rail, a bottom rail, and a double rail at lock level, crafted to mimic the appearance of wrought iron through the way the bars penetrate. Each gate has nine upright bars topped with stylised fircone knobs. Below the lock rail, there are four cross-braces adorned with large paired fern leaves that fill the lozenges. The bar at the hinge end pivots in a ground socket.
