Description

The Three Mariners Inn is a 19th-century inn featuring painted stucco that mimics ashlar above a roughcast ground floor, topped with a slate roof. The building has three relatively low storeys and three bays, with one bay on the left and two on the right, and a door situated between them. It has a raised plinth, with stucco surrounds framing 4-pane sash windows on the upper floor. The second-floor windows are located under the eaves and are supported by sill brackets, while corbels at the top corners hold up the gutter. The first-floor sash windows have segmental-headed surrounds with vermiculated keystones.

A broad 20th-century timber fascia extends over the ground floor and wraps around the left end wall. The ground floor features 20th-century fixed windows, with two 2-pane windows on the left and a 3-pane toplight window on the right. To the left of the middle window, there is a plain doorway with a double door made up of two long panels each.

The left side of the building, which faces St Mary's Street, is similar but lacks the moulded surrounds that have been removed since 1977. It has a 4-pane sash window in the centre of the second floor, above a 2-pane sash window on the first floor, and a ground floor 20th-century fixed window with a 3-pane toplight. There is another matching window to the right. A cast-iron street name plaque is located on the first floor to the right. To the left, there is a recessed single-storey wing that is roughcast with a plinth and a plain string course beneath a stepped parapet. This wing features a 20th-century window similar to the others, with a 3-pane toplight and a 20th-century door.
