Description
Penuel Cemaes Baptist Chapel is an 1860 chapel located on Glanrhyd Road in Rhydymaen. It is constructed from rubble stone and features a slate roof with bracketed eaves. The end facade has an open pedimental gable, which is also bracketed and includes a slate course. There are two long arched windows, a centrally located arched doorway, and a round date plaque above the door. The arches and the roundel are made with voussoirs in contrasting stone colors. The windows are margin-glazed sashes, while the door features a radiating bar fanlight and double panelled doors. The facade below the gable is banded in blue lias.
The side walls are rendered and each has a single 16-pane sash window on each floor. The end wall contains two long windows.
Inside, the chapel has an attractive interior with walls lined as ashlar, similar to Bethel in Moylgrove. It features a three-sided gallery supported by three thin iron columns, a simple pine panelled front, and box pews. There is a balustraded pulpit with steps on each side, and the ceiling has been renewed with plaster.
