Description
The South Gate-piers and Gates at Plas were built in the early 19th century, likely around the same time as Plas itself, which was constructed around 1825. The gates appear to be from the late 19th century.
The gatepiers are made of painted ashlar and are widely spaced, featuring broad square shapes with narrow tabling and cut-stone pyramidal coping. The gates are paired cast-iron, with the top rail ramping away from the center, and they are adorned with fleur-de-lys finials on both the top rail and the sub-rail.
These early 19th-century gatepiers are attractively designed and are complemented by well-crafted iron gates. They hold group value with Plas.
