Description

Tyllwyd is a farmhouse with attached outbuildings, situated in two shallow open courts to the north of the house. The farmhouse is long, constructed from whitewashed rubble stone, featuring a slate eaves roof and three yellow brick chimneys—one at each end and one on the ridge at the original right end. It is two-storeys high with a three-window range to the left and an added one-window range to the right, all under a single roof. There is evidence that the roof has been raised, indicated by an old line at mid-height of the upper windows. The windows are 12-pane hornless sashes with stone voussoirs, except for the ground floor right window in the added section, which is a three-light window. The center of the main part has no door, but there are stone voussoirs set high under the first-floor sill, which appear too high for a doorway. There is a straight join to the added range, which has a door immediately adjoining to the left of the right window. To the right, there is a single-storey range with a stone eastern end stack, which is in poor condition. The western end features brick in the chimney breast and various blocked openings, with an outshut at the rear.

The first outbuilding to the north, facing west, is lofted and has a metal sheet roof, with two square loft lights. The ground floor left section is a stable with a door between two small windows, while the ground floor right section has three doors with stone voussoirs, one of which is part-blocked. All openings, except for the stable door, which has a brick head, feature stone voussoirs, and there are no window sills. At right angles to the left is the rear of a lofted cartshed, which has one loft light with stone voussoirs. The western end gable has overhanging verges, and the northern front has three elliptical arched openings with stone voussoirs, along with two loft lights also featuring stone voussoirs. The northern courtyard includes a long west-facing cow-house range, probably built in the later 19th century, which has ten elliptical arched entries with stone voussoirs. There is also a range at right angles, featuring a square window and door on the eastern side, a windowless southern gable end, and a blocked wide door with stone voussoirs on the western front, along with a small door to the extreme left. The property was not inspected at the time of the survey.
