Description
Henblas is a country house built in the late Georgian style, featuring painted stucco and a hipped slate roof with a central valley and flat eaves. It has two 20th-century brick chimneys located in the valley. The house stands three storeys high and has a three-window range of sash windows, with 16-pane windows on the main floors and square 12-pane windows on the top floor.
The central entrance is recessed and features a six-panel door, which has four fielded panels and two flush panels, all with curved rebates at the corners. Above the door is a traceried overlight, and matching panels in the reveal are flanked by octagonal panels on either side and in the soffit. A 20th-century porch made of Bath stone has two columns and half-column responds, along with a moulded cornice. The entrance recess includes added 20th-century iron outer screen doors with an overlight.
Since a photograph from 1971, additional stucco details have been added, including channelled angle piers, rustication on the ground floor, and window surrounds with shoulders and keystones. The right side elevation mirrors the front with a similar two-window range of 12-pane horned sashes. The left side also has a two-window range but features a blank window at the top left and 20th-century windows at the top and bottom right.
At the rear, there is a three-window range with paired casement windows on the top floor, an unusual first-floor window with 30 tiny panes and an iron opening section, a 20th-century window on the first floor to the right, and 6-pane horned sashes on the first and ground floors to the left. The centre has a boarded door with an overlight, and there is a single-storey outbuilding attached to the right, which includes a brick end stack, a window, a door, and a triple casement on the east front.
Although not inspected, it is said that the interior features six-panel doors, panelled shutters, and window surrounds with small bosses. There is a late Georgian staircase, and the dining room contains a chamfered cross beam that suggests the reuse of an older building.
