Description

Upper Llanoley is a single storey and attic farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century, constructed from whitewashed rubble with later alterations. It features a corrugated iron roof, a modern brick chimney stack on the left gable end, and two flat-roofed modern dormers. The building has one modern window on the left and a central window for the mezzanine staircase. The entrance consists of a boarded door with a cambered head, and there is a stable door entrance to the right, which likely leads to a former byre. It is possible that the original entrance was further to the left, creating a cross-passage next to the staircase.

The left side of the farmhouse is plain rubble with a bread oven that slightly projects at the base. The right side also has rubble and features one casement window, while both gable ends have plain bargeboards. The rear of the building is single storey and attic with three modern dormers and two fixed glazed windows at ground level.

Inside, the farmhouse retains stop-chamfered beams in the ground floor rooms, especially in the main room on the left, which also has a timber lintel above a broad fireplace and a partition wall with two openings, possibly leading to the cross-passage. The floors are stone flagged, except in the former byre. Throughout the interior, there are timber partition walls and boarded doors, and the roof is likely original, featuring tie and ridge beams along with butt purlins.
