Description
Plas-Dolanog is a T-shaped, two-storey house dating from the 17th century. Its main range runs east to west, with a crosswing at the west that projects and features gables at both the front and rear. An additional two-storey gabled block is situated at the front angle.
The house is primarily constructed from axe-dressed uncoursed local stone, which is painted white. However, the front gable of the crosswing, the front of the main range, and the additional block are timber-framed. The north gable of the main range is timber boarded and likely timber framed as well. The timber framing below the eaves is now false but closely follows the original pattern. The roofs are restored slate, with early small-slate roofing still visible on the rear of the crosswing. There are twin diagonal stone chimney shafts at the centre and a stone end-chimney at the rear of the crosswing.
The house features modern doors and windows in the altered timber framing, while the stonework sections have 19th or 20th-century windows. These windows are small and likely fit into unaltered openings, which lack distinct heads or sills, except for one at the ground storey rear that has a brick arch.
The interior has not been seen, but it has been described by the Royal Commission as having a sub-medieval plan, with a lobby entry next to a main chimney that contains back-to-back fireplaces. The original listing notes good, possibly late 17th-century stairs with turned oak balusters, built-in oak cupboards and doors, and slate floors.
