Description
Trawscoed Hen (West Wing) is a high-quality building constructed from local red brick in Flemish bond, set in lime mortar on a three-course ashlar stone plinth, with three stone string courses. It features a hipped slate roof. The rectangular block is positioned at right angles to the main facade, showcasing a one-bay elevation to the main south front. It connects to a lower three-bay link block, where the centre bay is slightly forward and highlighted by a tall shallow blind brick arcade, with arches that spring from a narrow stone band. The link block also includes a three-seat WC.
The west block may have been designed to serve as a ballroom or a library for the main block, which features a three-bay, three-storey recessed centre with a horizontal parapet and projecting four-storey end towers. Access to the central pedimented front door is provided by a perron stair.
