Description
The building is a former weaving factory, located to the rear of 40-44 High Street. It dates to the mid-19th century, with the number '1855' cut into one of the king posts, suggesting a date of construction or significant alteration.
The front of the building is three storeys high and has a rubble construction with red brick quoins and window dressings. It has a six-window front. Most of the windows are modern, six-pane casements with cambered heads on the ground and first floors, and cement cills. One window is blocked. A boarded door leads to modern stairs. A two-storey and loft brick range is attached to the right, featuring a boarded door and a gabled winch cover. A rubble gable end is on the left side. The rear of the building has six windows, with some original windows on the second floor, and a modern ground floor extension. An adjoining brick range is stepped back on this side. Modern extensions on the west side are not of special interest.
The ground floor has been converted into a bar and function room. The first floor is partly converted into a flat at the southern end. The second floor is accessed by timber stairs at the northern end and remains a single open space with exposed king post trusses, showing notches that may have been for machinery installation. The interior of the brick range has not been inspected.
