Description

44 High Street is a pair of two-storey cottages that have undergone modern alterations. Cottage No 43 features a single window, while No 44 has two windows separated by a vertically dividing band. The ground floor of No 43 is rendered, while No 44 is boarded. No 43 has modern casement windows and an earlier 20th-century door. In contrast, No 44 has one painted-over small pane metal frame casement and one small pane wooden casement, along with a shop window below that includes a bracket cornice, pilasters, and a half-glazed door.

The rear of No 43 has been modernized, but No 44 retains a very steep old slate roof, along with a one-storey and attic cross range and a tall red brick chimney stack. Behind this is an additional cross range that features a louvered ventilation clerestory, which connects to the brick part of the United Services Club, a former flannel mill.

It is noted that No 44 is said to retain an old fireplace.
