Description
No 8 Sarn-y-bryn-caled Cottages is part of a pair of cottages built between 1861 and 1871 as part of a small settlement developed by the Powis Estate to house agricultural workers. The main front is constructed from coursed and squared snecked local sandstone, while the rest is made of brick. The cottages have a graded slate roof with an axial brick stack and are two storeys high, each featuring a single unit plan with a shared rear wing.
There are paired central doorways with battened plank doors set in simple shallow timber porches. No 7 retains its original door, which has decorative panelling on the architrave. The flanking windows are small-paned iron casements, with flat arched voussoir heads on the ground floor. These cottages are part of a group that exemplifies a small estate settlement and retains much of its original character.
