Description
Great Weston Farmhouse is a two-part house featuring a two-storey main range with four windows. The eastern end has a timber-framed section, which may be the eastern bay of a lobby entry-type house dating from the late 17th century. The remainder of the house is a three-window range likely built in the 18th century. It is made of painted brickwork and has a slate roof, with a central doorway. There is a brick stack at the western end and a ridge stack located between the 17th and 18th-century sections. Additionally, there is a further range at the rear.
The timber framing is visible above the mid-rail level in the right-hand bay of the front and the eastern gable end. This framing consists of two rows of panels, many of which are adorned with cusped quatrefoils. One area features close studding on the front. Above the gable bressumer, the area is timber clad. Below, there are five decorated panels in each row, with one panel removed, and these panels jetty out above the brickwork below. The jetty bressumer is intricately moulded. Below the mid-rail level on the front, the construction is in brickwork, and the windows are modern. The door is located at the eastern end.
To the west of the timber-framed bay is the two-storey brick range built in 18th-century brickwork, which has 19th-century alterations including new windows and a porch. The gabled brick porch is centrally positioned in front of an original six-panelled half-lit door with panelled reveals. To the east, there is a canted bay window with sash windows. To the west, in the upper storey, there are four-pane sash windows set under wedge lintels. A plat band runs between the storeys, and the western gable is clad in tin. The substantial rear wing features a central doorway within a gabled porch, modern windows, and a brick side stack.
Access to the interior was not available at the time of inspection in January 1996.
