Description
Toll Cottage is a two-bay, two-storey cottage built from rubble masonry and topped with a tile roof, featuring a red brick end stack. The central doorway has a plain, planked door set within a simple doorcase. Above the door, there is a recessed panel with a brick arched head, likely used for displaying toll charges. The cottage has two windows on the front, with four-pane wooden casement windows that extend to the eaves on the first floor. The ground floor windows are set beneath segmental brick arched heads and have glazing bars that create lancet-shaped heads, giving the cottage a Gothic appearance. To the north, there is a brick lean-to, possibly a toilet block, which includes a planked door and a four-pane casement window. The south gable features small windows. The rear of the cottage was not accessible during the inspection in February 1996, and the interior could not be accessed at that time.
