Description
The Arches at the former Ynysgedwen Iron Works are two parallel arcades made of yellow brick, each featuring six large arches supported by seven rectangular piers. Each pier has two flush bands of large terracotta blocks, chamfered plinths, moulded brick bands, and capitals. The arches are constructed with a moulded brick outer ring made of header bricks arranged in three rings. The flat coping at the wall-plate level, which has replaced the original moulded brick, stands approximately 9 to 10 meters high. The moulded yellow brick details include a bull-nosed band on the columns and arch ring, as well as more intricate capitals on the piers. Iron brackets that once held the roof trusses are visible on the insides of the arches, though they have been cut back to the wall face.
