Description

Cleveland House is a long range of three units dating from the 18th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone on the left side and slate cladding on the right, all painted white. It features a dentil cornice along the front and a slate roof with a tile ridge and stone chimneys, one positioned centrally and one at the end. The windows are regularly spaced – two are sham windows, and the window nearest the eaves is an 8-pane hornless sash. First and ground floor windows are 16-pane hornless sashes. The windows have black-painted rubbed brick lintels and stone sills. A panel door is located within the left unit, set within a slightly round-headed recess in the brickwork and topped with a simple pediment. A door to the right unit is concealed within a modern porch. A modern shopfront is centrally located, obscuring the presumed original door position. Boarded hoisting doors, with segmental heads, are set within the stonework of the left gable, at both first and second storey levels.
