Description
Bodwen is a three-unit timber-framed house dating from the 18th century. From the street, it features a 1½-storey gabled unit on the left, flanked by two 1½-storey units on the right. At the left end, there is a timber-framed lean-to, while the right end includes a full-height brick barn and a corrugated steel shed. The timber framing is primarily brick-nogged, painted black and white at the front, although much of the rear timber framing remains unpainted. The uppermost panels of the original part of the house are made of lighter timber. The roof is slate with tile ridges, and there are two brick mid-chimneys.
The windows are generally in keeping with the timber framing. The gabled unit on the left features a small-pane window both above and below, along with a former door position on the left. The middle unit has two small-pane dormer windows aligned with latticed windows below and a boarded door beneath a small canopy. The right unit includes garage doors.
Inside, the house retains much of its original timber framing, including simply chamfered main beams and minimal floor joists. There is a large brick bread oven built into the north-west of the east chimney, projecting into the adjacent room. The east part of the central unit has pitched stone paving, which shows signs of a possible well.
