Description
The Humphreys Memorial is a sandstone structure located in the churchyard, designed in a neo-classical style. It features a large urn atop a pedestal. The pedestal, frieze, and cornice are crafted from a single piece of stone and rest on a separately moulded plinth. The frieze includes raised roundels and a moulded cornice. The plaques on the pedestal have incised borders with quadrant rebates at the corners. The top is stepped, leading to a square pyramidal base for the large urn, which has a gadrooned lower part and a flared shape with a gadrooned lip.
On the east side, there is an inscription dedicated to Charles Gardner Humphreys, who died in 1862. He served as a lieutenant with the 14th Light Dragoons during the Peninsular War and was awarded a medal with seven clasps for the Salamanca to Toulouse campaign. The south side bears an inscription for Charles Gardner Humphreys, a solicitor who died in 1803, and his wife Elizabeth, who died in 1819. The north side commemorates Elizabeth Humphreys, who died in 1798 at the age of 7, and Mary, who died in 1815 at the age of 20. The west side is inscribed for Richard Humphreys, who died in 1876.
