Description

This is an early 19th-century limestone family tomb, designed by the sculptor T. Ravenhill, located in the churchyard of St Cynidr and St Peter’s Church. It is a cuboid structure featuring a fluted frieze and cornice. Each of the four faces has a low relief keyed arch framed by corner pilasters, which enclose a higher relief depiction of a draped vase. The design sits upon a moulded die. Each face also displays an oval plaque inscribed with details relating to family members: John Hughes, a clergyman and magistrate, and parent; Isabel Hughes, 1845; Thomas Hughes of Penwain, 1835; Thomas Howel, 1814; and Elizabeth Games, 1812, aged 39.
