Description
This is a former cow-house, likely dating to the 18th century. It is situated within the grounds of Rhyd y Carw.
The front elevation features three tiers of box panelling set upon a stone plinth, topped by a corrugated iron roof that is half-hipped at the west end. The lower two tiers of panelling are weather-boarded, with the work appearing to have been carried out in at least two distinct phases. The upper tier is open, providing ventilation to the loft space. The building has planked or split doors throughout, with the tops of some missing. A double door is located to the left of the centre, with two further doorways positioned to the left of this. Evidence suggests there were likely two doorways on the right side of the building, but one appears to have been infilled with weatherboarding. The front of the right-hand end bay is open, and the east gable end is similarly open. The west gable end has been rebuilt in stone, and a weather-boarded lean-to has been added to the rear.
The interior, which was only partially inspected, consists of five bays. It retains good pegged tie-beam trusses; all of these have raked struts, with the exception of the easternmost truss, which features a collar and vertical struts. Boarded partitions and some loft flooring remain in place.
