Description
Corlan is a terraced house dating from the 18th century, featuring painted stucco and a close-eaved slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with a plinth and dentilled brick eaves that continue from The Armoury on the left. The first floor has three 12-pane sash windows with flat heads, the center window adorned with a triple keystone. On the ground floor, there is one 12-pane sash window on the right with a cambered head, and a cambered-headed tripartite window with a 4-12-4-pane configuration on the left. The windows have painted stone sills. The central door is composed of four fielded panels and three glass panes, set within a fine mid-18th century pedimented doorcase. The architrave features heavy rustication and a quintuple keystone against a pulvinated frieze beneath the pediment. The south end gable is made of whitewashed stone and has a blocked gable opening. The rear of the house includes a rubble stone gabled cross-wing on the left with a modern gable window, and a very large red brick chimney on the main house. To the right, there is a heavy square-framed timber-framed gable from the 17th century, which has modern windows. The ground floor has been built out in brick.
The interior has not been fully inspected, but just inside the door is a good mid-18th century narrow staircase with column balusters and square panelled newels that winds up to a landing with a similar rail. The ground floor features one cross beam and two axial beams.
