Description

Strode House, along with Church House and Achill, is a 2-storey building with a rectangular plan and a taller extension at the rear. It features exposed and rendered brick, a slate roof, and brick and rendered chimneys. The left side of the building is rendered, with three renewed windows on each floor. The upper floor window on the right has a stone plaque beneath it that reads: "Hospitium Invalidorum Parochianorum Impensis Structum AD 1725 Thoma Pate Rogero Jones Petro Potter Iohan Edwards Guardianis." This part of the building is known as Achill.

The central section, known as Church House, has a two-window range with incised stucco, a door, and casement windows. To the right is Strode House, which has a three-window exposed brick range featuring a dentil eaves cornice and flush casement windows. The innermost bay of this range includes a gabled brick porch with stone copings and kneelers, featuring an arched opening attached to a brick front wall with stone coping. Between the porch roof and the upper window is another stone plaque with a partially legible inscription, which according to A N Palmer reads: "Schola Eleemosyna Dnae Margaretae Strode Fundata 1725 ad Pauperes Ejus Sumptibus Erudiendos."

Inside the rear extension, there is a schoolroom with an exposed timber roof and a dado made from 18th-century panelling. The rest of the interior was not accessible during the 1995 survey.
