Description
Stonehurst is a house built in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed from roughly squared and coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof with stone end chimneys, following an H-plan layout. The building is two stories high and has a symmetrical front with three windows. There are gabled bays on either side of a recessed central bay, which includes a stone porch supported by Doric pilasters. The upper floor windows are 9-pane sashes with margin lights, while the ground floor windows, set in shallow arched heads, are 12-pane sashes also with margin lights. A plain dressed stone eaves band runs along the top. The property is enclosed by a brick wall topped with stone coping, and there are stone gatepiers and railings. Notably, the rear elevation is almost identical to the front, likely designed this way because it is visible from Bridge Street. The building was not accessible at the time of the survey in October 1994.
