Description
The water tower at Bettisfield Park is an Italianate structure built in 1842. It features four stages and is constructed of brick with a pyramidal slate roof and deep bracketed eaves. The entrance is located on the east side, consisting of a panel door within a moulded doorcase, topped by a large stone tablet displaying the year '1842' in raised numerals. Above the entrance, there is a 16-pane horizontal-sliding sash window in an architrave on the second stage, along with a small-pane oculus on the third stage. The north side includes another 16-pane horizontal-sliding sash window in an architrave on the lower stage, while the second and third stages have blind windows. The west and south faces feature a blind oculus on the third stage. The upper stage is arcaded on each face, consisting of five arches that are mostly blind, except for the central arch which has small-pane glazing.
Adjacent to the west wall of the tower is a former one-storey coach house or stable, which is shown on the 1873 Ordnance Survey map. This building has since been used as a garage and is now converted into a dwelling. It is also made of brick and has a slate roof with coped gables and finials similar to those of the stables. The south side retains three original openings, while a later opening has been made in the west gable end, with all openings altered. Additionally, there is a late 20th-century one-storey projection on the south side and a coped brick wall at the southeast angle.
