Description

Cedar House is a two-storey building that showcases a blend of picturesque, vernacular, and Tudor Gothic architectural styles, reflecting a unique design and layout. Constructed of brick with stone dressing and topped with a slate roof, it features tall paired brick chimneys adorned with stone detailing. The gables are finished with stone coping and ball finials, while the three main elevations display paired multipaned sash windows, along with stone quoins and lintels.

The building's layout resembles a modified cross, with a semi-octagonal bay and a loggia at the intersection, which serves as the main entrance. The loggia is made of stone and features three Tudor arched openings that lead to a door flanked by windows. The semi-octagonal bay rises above the eaves and is accompanied by tall paired chimneys. The right-hand return elevation is more simply designed, featuring a projecting gable. An attached wall connects the house to a stable block. The garden front on the left side includes a projecting gabled bay with a chimney at the front and recessed splayed ground floor corners that contain tall sash windows. At the rear, the walls extend from the house, showing signs of alteration and demolition.

Inside, the main entrance opens into an octagonal lobby that includes a fireplace and a Ruabon tile floor with geometric patterns. This lobby leads to a spacious staircase hall that is illuminated from above, featuring a Jacobean-style staircase with a heavy newel post, pierced shaped balusters, and a closed string. The ceiling is decorated with plaster ribs in geometric patterns. Six-panel doors provide access to the principal rooms, which are well-lit and offer good views of the grounds, generally featuring marble fireplaces, shutters, and decorative cornices. The upper rooms are similarly styled, while the servants' quarters at the rear are more simply finished. Additionally, there are extensive stone cellars with brick vaulting.

Cedar House has group value with the Cedar House Stableblock.
