Description

Maesllwyn House is a 2½-storey, 2-window house built of brick, featuring a slate roof with projecting eaves and brick end stacks, one of which has been rebuilt. The front of the house is symmetrical, with a central entrance located within an added gabled brick porch. The lower storey windows have flat-arched brick heads and consist of 3 lights with wooden mullions and transoms. The upper storey has similar windows in original openings, although the heads, which were likely flat arches originally, have been rebuilt. Two 19th-century insurance badges from the British Fire Office and Birmingham Fire Office are displayed above the porch.

To the right side, there is a 1-storey extension with dentil eaves, a slate roof, a brick end stack, and a 3-light window similar to those on the main house. The right gable end of the main house features two inserted attic casements. A double garage is set back against the left gable end, which has a replacement 2-light attic window in an earlier opening. The rear of the house has three windows and sawtooth eaves. On the right side, there are replacement windows under original segmental-headed openings, a central inserted stair window, and enlarged windows on the left side in both storeys. An outshut with a flat-roof projection has been added to the rear of the wing.

The original entrance, now located in the porch, has a moulded wooden surround. The house has a double-depth plan, consisting of a traditional hall and parlour at the front, with service rooms and a stair located behind. The hall on the right side features a fireplace with a timber lintel and retains an ovolo-moulded spine beam with a large ogee stop. The parlour and service room on the left side both have chamfered spine beams and original panelled doors with iron hinges. The central full-height dog-leg stair has lost its original balusters and newels.
