Description

44 Glynne Way is an early 19th-century, two-storey row of cottages, referred to as "New Row" in an estate survey from 1844. The symmetrical facade is divided into three sections and constructed of brick, topped with a continuous shallow-pitched slate roof featuring dentilated eaves and a plain cornice band. The cottages share large rectangular stacks between pairs. The six central cottages are designed as reflected units, with the central pair slightly projecting. Each of the three units has a full-height blind arch with a depressed head, containing paired entrances on the ground floor, one for each cottage. Above these entrances, there is a centrally-placed dummy window on the first floor. The two end cottages align with the flanking paired units, with their entrances facing the gable ends, and each has a blind, recessed cross above. Each cottage retains its original five-panelled door with a flat-arched lintel. The ground floor features 24-pane fixed iron windows, while the first floor has 30-pane windows, although six of these have been replaced, including those of No 50, which are considered recent and inappropriate. All windows have flat-arched lintels, plain projecting cills, and are recessed. Cottages Nos 46, 48, and 54 have external painted wooden shutters on the ground floor windows, which is an original feature.

The rear of the building is constructed of rubble with brick dentilated eaves. There are early 20th-century rear extensions to each cottage, all except the end ones having shared roofs.
