Description
1 Rectory Lane is a late 19th-century terrace of two-storey cottages that share a tiled roof. The cottages feature moulded brick stacks. The ground floor is constructed of uncoursed ashlar, while the upper floor is made of red brick, with a simple string course separating the two. Cottages numbered 1, 2, and 7 have simple timber-framed gables with plain bargeboards and exposed purlins. The windows are 6-light mullioned and transomed designs with projecting sills, and those on the ground floor have segmental relieving arches made of brick. The entrances to cottages 2, 7, and 8 are chamfered, with plain planked doors, and cottages 2 and 7 feature rectangular fanlights. Cottage 8 has a later door and a 2-light window at the first-floor level instead of a gable.
Cottage 1 is accessed from the south and has a large timber-framed gabled first floor that oversails and is supported by braced posts. It has simple bargeboards that are slightly feathered out and features 2 sets of 12-pane casements. The entrance is to the right, sheltered by a tiled canopy on wooden brackets. There are contemporary 2-light and cross windows with 4 and 6 panes of light.
To the left, there is a stone wall and an adjoining ty bach. There is also a single-storey stone extension at the rear of cottage 7.
