Description
The pair of late 17th century sandstone chest tombs is located at the Church of St Saeran. Each tomb features a stone with relief-carved guilloche edge decoration, resting on rectangular chests that have three-bay blind arcading on the sides and single shallow arched niches at the ends, adorned with grooved decoration.
The left tomb has an inscribed stone dedicated to Mathew Jones, steward to Sir William Williams, Bart., of Plas-y-Ward, who died in 1703. Below this primary inscription, it notes: 'Repaired by John Yale of Plas-yn-Yale and his heir 1767.'
The right tombstone is inscribed with the name of Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Thomas Evans of 'Skybion', who died in 1684, along with her sister Doulse Evans, who died in 1686. There is also a later inscription for Elin Roberts of Pant Glas, who died in 1745.
