Description
Glascoed Lodge is the most impressive remaining lodge that serves as the grand southern entrance to Bodelwyddan Park, introducing the castellated style of the house. The park wall curves at corner piers to form a forecourt, then continues on both sides to the original lodge, which features towers flanking the central gateway. The walls of the forecourt are crenellated.
Constructed from local grey limestone, the lodge has coursed and rock-faced stonework. The towers and the connecting curtain wall are of equal height, topped with corbelled parapets and crenellations. The towers have strongly battered bases. The central gateway is 4-centred and chamfered, with single cross-loopholes and oeillets in each tower, and two storeys of simple loopholes in the curtain wall. Simple loopholes are also present on either side of the towers. The gates are of a lattice design.
The gatehouse extends slightly behind the park wall and lacks battlements. A modern gatelodge is located at the western side at the rear. The lodge has been modernised.
