Description
Bodlondeb Lodge is a Domestic Revival style lodge dating to the 19th century. It is constructed of snecked rock-faced stone, with timber framing to the attic gables and porch, and has a steep tile roof with overhanging eaves, ridge tiles, and moulded brick finials. A central ridge stack is present on the main range.
The lodge comprises a main range with a gable end facing Bangor Road and a porch and lower hipped bay on the east side, facing the entrance drive to the main house. The east elevation features a porch with a boarded door incorporating glazed panels. To the right of the porch is a lower, deeply projecting, one-story bay with two small-pane mullioned casements with leaded overlights, and a thin mullion design. A stack is built into the north side wall of this bay.
The south gable end facing Bangor Road has two central small-pane casement windows with overlights. The timber-framed gable rests on a corbelled bressumer and incorporates a projecting collar beam on brackets, and a triple small-pane casement window with leaded upper lights. A recessed entrance outshut to the right has a small window. The north gable end has a corbelled bressumer supporting a timber-framed gable with a lean-to roof and a skylight below the main gable. The west (rear) wall has a hipped dormer and a small-pane window on the left side.
A roofed link connects the lodge to a formerly detached washhouse. This consists of the original single-story block, with a later two-story range behind it. The original block has a coped gable end facing the entrance drive and a small window on the north side. The two-story rear range is constructed of snecked rock-faced stone with lighter freestone quoins, a tile roof, ridge tiles, and a finial. A stack is in the northwest corner. Gables feature rendered imitation timber framing, projecting barge boards with X-shaped bracing, and a pendant finial. The east gable end has a three-light window on the first floor. On the north side is a two-pane horned sash window in a stone surround, and on the west gable end, a two-pane sash window on the ground floor, and a three-light window on the first floor.
The lodge has been converted to offices and was not inspected during the listings process.
