Description
Tafarn-helyg is a house built in a simple Georgian vernacular style, dating from the 18th century. It is two storeys high and features a storeyed wing at the northwest end, along with a single-storey lean-to outbuilding at the left gable. The structure is made of mortared rubble masonry, with large stones used as quoins and lintels. It has a slate roof with overhanging eaves at the northwest gable of the storeyed wing, and stone gable stacks that have dripstones and capping.
The main house faces northeast and has a three-window range, with a wide doorway positioned towards the centre and the openings offset to the right (northwest). The windows are 16-pane hornless sashes with slate sills, and the first-floor windows are located under the eaves. The storeyed wing to the right is aligned with the main house but has a lower roof line. Its doorway is on the left, with a single window on both the ground and first floors; the ground floor window is an equal sash, while the first-floor window is a 9-pane centrally hinged window set under the eaves. The lean-to outbuilding features a single doorway offset to the right. At the rear of the house, there are small 4-paned horned sash windows, and a conservatory has been added against the rear wall.
The interior was not inspected during the survey in July 2003, but the owner reports that it retains exposed beams and joists, as well as a large slate lintel over an inglenook fireplace.
