Description
Parc is a two-and-a-half storey end-chimney house of T-plan, constructed from rough-dressed rubble on boulder foundations. The building dates to 1671, as confirmed by a sandstone date plaque bearing the initials LA and KA (for Lewis and Katherine Anwyl) on the northwest gable.
The roof is graded with small slates and features overlapping slab-coped gable parapets with double-curved kneelers and coved eaves. The chimneys retain contemporary moulded capping and weathercoursing.
The northeast facade is the principal elevation and presents irregular openings. The central entrance has a flat, finely-chamfered Tudor arch with slate ashlar voussoirs and quoins. Above it runs a moulded dripstone supported on curved brackets in the manner of a returned label. The original entrance door is deeply recessed and boarded, a 19th-century alteration. Flanking the entrance are 6-pane and 4-pane 20th-century casement windows. To the right is a further blocked entrance of the same form, followed by a 4-pane casement. The first floor features 17th-century sandstone mullioned windows: the centre window above the door has three lights, while the remainder have two lights each. The attic floor is dominated by a large central gable fashioned in the manner of a pediment, with shaped kneelers and slab-coped parapet. A moulded stone stringcourse continues the eaves line across the gable. Within the gable sits a 4-pane casement in a 17th-century opening.
The northwest gable contains a blocked primary entrance at first-floor level with a cambered head and dressed slate voussoirs. The attic floor above has a 2-light mullioned window and a further modern 2-light window to the right, contained within a reduced primary entrance topped with a roll-moulded lintel and flattened Tudor arch. Near the building corner is an inset sandstone date plaque with the initials and date mentioned above.
The rear features a projecting central gabled wing with a 2-light ground-floor window containing a reused ovolo-moulded mullion, and an in situ 2-light mullioned sandstone stair light with original ferrementa to the right. A part-glazed modern door opens to the left return within an earlier, though probably not primary, opening. A small original opening with modern glazing appears at the rear of the main range to the left, topped by a modern 12-pane casement. A late 19th-century slated lean-to extends from the left, containing a part-glazed door and small window, with a 20th-century 12-pane casement above. A further 2-light mullioned window sits at first-floor level on the right return of the rear wing.
Interior: The hall to the left of the main entrance is slate-flagged and features a 19th-century boarded wind-porch that forms a corridor division, equipped with a built-in bench on the hall side and a small 4-pane window. The end wall contains a wide fireplace with a depressed arch and finely dressed slate voussoirs, within which sits a 19th-century cast-iron range. The primary lateral beams are deeply chamfered; later joists with run-out chamfer-stops of inferior character represent early replacements. To the right of the entrance, the parlour section retains a stopped-chamfered primary beam with mortising evidence for a former screen, indicating the building's original subdivision into lodging units. This room features a fine Jacobean carved oak overmantel (recently brought in) and a 19th-century slate fireplace with an arched opening and fluted corbels. The rear service room on the ground floor has a roughly-scantled beamed ceiling. A slate-stepped stair rises around a central masonry pier.
