Description

This is a farm building situated on the east side of the farmyard at Fron Newydd, and incorporating a wall that encloses the yard. Constructed of roughly coursed stone rubble with slate roofs, the building comprises two sections set at right angles to the raised terrace of the farmhouse, running down the slope.

The first section is a barn, featuring central opposed boarded doors, and a small, high-set window at the lower end of the yard-facing elevation. A small pitching door is located in the upper gable end. The second section is of the same build as the barn, but its front wall has been raised, which reduces the roof pitch. It includes a single doorway leading onto the yard at its lower end, and a doorway to a loft in the rear wall. A brick lean-to structure on the lower gable end replaced a similar stone building around 1952.

Inside the barn, there are two king-post trusses of 19th-century type, dividing the space into three structural bays defined by rough stone piers supporting the tie beams. Internal rough timber partitions separate a storage area and calf pen from the central threshing and food preparation floor.
