Description

Capel Rehoboth, also known as Capel Goffa or Capel Newydd, is a chapel constructed of slate with gritstone dressings, situated on a steep slope below the road, with the vestry located at the lower level. The chapel features a hall that is two storeys high and consists of five bays, with a narrow single bay at the eastern end. The bays are separated by tall buttresses that rise nearly to the corbel table, with angled buttresses at the corners and very tall canted buttresses at the eastern corners. The windows are stone mullioned and transomed with leaded glazing; the lower level has three-light double transomed windows set back in shallow moulded, slightly arched frames, while the upper level generally features two-light and single transomed windows, with alternate bays having double transoms. The window heads rise above the eaves and are topped with small pebble-dashed gables. The main facade facing the road is also pebble-dashed between stone bands and features a central wide hipped entrance porch with two Tudor-arched entrances and angle buttresses at the corbel table. Various foundation stones are present. Above the entrance, the gable end of the chapel is illuminated by a four-light arched window with pillars on each side that rise to gabled terminals above the roof verge, forming buttresses to a small pent roof. The corbel table of the main block returns at the western end to part-octagonal features on either side.

On the northern side of the chapel, there is a single storey schoolroom set low down the site.

Inside, the main hall is spacious and wide, consisting of five bays and roofed with four arch-braced collar beam trusses featuring king posts and struts that spring from corbels set low in the side walls. The roof is open raftered. The walls are plastered, with a high panelled dado and a cornice shelf. The floor is slightly raked and contains pews arranged in four banks with two aisles. The pulpit is positioned against a wide arch and is accessed by railed steps that rise from within the enclosed set fawr, which includes a central reading desk. The lower sections of the windows contain stained glass. Doors on the eastern end lead to a staircase descending to a high vestry below, supported by cast iron columns.
